SunSource Energy Commissions Phase 1 of its 45 MWp Project in Uttar Pradesh

March 21, 2022, New Delhi: SunSource Energy, a leading firm in the distributed solar sector, announced the successful commissioning of the first phase of its 45-Megawatt Peak (MWp) open-access project in Shivala Kalan village of Uttar Pradesh. Once fully commissioned, this will be one of the largest open-access solar power projects in the state.

In a ceremony held at the project site, Bram Graber, Chief Executive Officer of SHV Energy, inaugurated the 15 MWp first phase by unveiling a plaque. Also present were Ajay Kumar, Board Member, SunSource Energy; Lukas Gresnigt, Director Renewable Solutions, SHV Energy; Kushagra Nandan, Co-Founder and Managing Director of SunSource Energy; and Adarsh Das, Co-Founder, and CEO, SunSource Energy.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chief Executive Officer SHV Energy, Bram Graber said, “We are here to support the energy transition of our customers and are very excited to be a part of the solar energy revolution in India. The setting up of the project is in alignment with our long-term commitment to the country. I am pleased that I was able to be present at this important event. As one of the largest open-access solar projects in Uttar Pradesh, this plant will be a major step forward for the state’s industries, looking for clean power to support their existing and future operations.”

Speaking about the commissioning, Co-Founder and Managing Director, SunSource Energy, Kushagra Nandan said, “This project is yet another step towards fulfilling our commitment to providing affordable and reliable solar power to our clients and support India’s clean energy goals."

“We are excited to begin the first phase of this project, which will support Uttar Pradesh’s growth ambitions sustainably. I would like to thank the Government of Uttar Pradesh and the local communities for their support and cooperation in helping us commission this key project," added Adarsh Das, Co-Founder and CEO, SunSource Energy.

The 45 MWp project is being built on 164 acres of land and utilizes transmission lines of 40 km to connect to the grid.  The first phase has been built across 64 acres of land and connects to the state grid via a 16 km transmission line. The land used in the development of this project has been leased from multiple local owners, creating a steady cash flow stream to the local communities for more than two decades without displacing their existing source of income or changing land ownership patterns.

With the commissioning of the first phase, SunSource will supply clean and reliable power via the state’s power grid to leading corporations in the state, including Taj Hotels and a Coca-Cola bottling plant. The project will offset over 1,500 million kilogram of CO2 emission over its technical lifetime.

Uttar Pradesh, India’s most populous state, is emerging as one of the fastest-growing economies in India in recent years. The state accounts for a tenth of the country’s overall power demand. During the last decade, its peak electricity demand has more than doubled and is expected to grow significantly in the coming years. Going forward, Solar Energy is expected to play a crucial role in powering the state’s growth ambitions.
