PM Modi inaugurates Lakshadweep on-grid solar project with advanced battery storage

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated Lakshadweep's inaugural on-grid solar project featuring a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). Developed by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), the initiative covers the islands of Kavaratti and Agatti, (EPC) services were provided by SunSource Energy.

Lakshadweep Energy Development Agency (LEDA) will now source power from these solar plants, facilitating a transition from diesel-based power to a sustainable energy source. The initiative is expected to offset 58,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions and save 190 lakh litres of diesel over its lifetime.

Kushagra Nandan, Co-Founder, Managing Director, and CEO of SunSource Energy, highlighted the company's role in this project, aligning with its commitment to advancing sustainable projects contributing to the country’s net-zero goals.

Shreedhar Singh, Additional General Manager, Solar Energy Corporation of India Ltd., emphasized the project's significance in addressing the energy challenges of Lakshadweep and aligns seamlessly with the broader national objective of promoting green energy. We believe it will pave the way for more sustainable and resilient energy solutions for island regions across the country.
